What is the Warrant Clinic?

The Warrant Clinic is a one-day community court event to help people eliminate their warrants in traffic misdemeanor court.

Many people fear arrest and don’t go to court when they have warrants. We partner with local community organizations and the court to hold a one day court event at a community location to eliminate that fear of arrest and increase community participation.

What Does the Warrant Clinic Do?

• Helps people get suspended driver’s licenses back.

• Eliminates the burden of overwhelming dockets in municipal court

• Eliminates the fear of arrest

•Brings real dollars and cents to the budget of the city (People rarely pay these outdated fines and fees, we are able to recover more than the court and city would regularly receive.)

• It makes the court process more accessible.

• It holds court on the weekend.

• It saves the community resources. Many people have debt in the thousands which they rarely pay in full, we hope to get something from people and allow them to remove warrants and obtain a driver’s license.

• It’s an entry point to civic engagement!!!

• It creates trust between the community and the court system.

• It leads to legislation ending outdated laws around fines and fees and suspended driver’s licenses.

• It provides leadership development for community leaders.

• It creates a coalition of community organizations, elected officials, judges and residents.
